Posts Tagged ‘blogging for business’

Blogging has proved wrong the naysayers who said it was ‘just a fad’. It has caught on like wildfire. There are thousands upon thousands of blogs online today and each has an individual viewpoint. If you are considering taking up blogging, it helps to understand the different kinds of blogs and how they function. There are two main blog categories - those with a promotional purpose and those written simply for enjoyment.

Promoting a company is one way that blogs can function. Blogging works well as an advertising aid for a number of reasons. First of all, blogs are changed and updated often. That means readers come back and there is a continuous stream of potential customers.

As well, the thousand-fold community of people who blog, called the “blogosphere” can benefit your business. A lot of authors of blogs help each other out by listing links to each others’ blogs. If a very popular blog links to your site, it could drive more business your way. Some blogs have over one hundred thousand readers, so the power of blogs should not be underestimated. The interlinking does not happen instantly; new blogs must gradually build up the number of websites which link to them. However, simply by launching a blog, you will be tapping into a huge population of readers (and potential customers).

An advantage of blogging is that you can expand your content to draw more customers. For example, the owner of an interior design business might create a blog which features home projects, color choices and design ideas. By offering a broad range of information relating to your product, you can create more interest in your website.

Many blog hosting companies generate high rankings on search engines which can propel your business to the forefront. Check online to find tips for maximizing search engine ratings. For instance, using tags and key phrases can help make your blog easy to find.

Instead of using a blog to promote a business, many people author blogs for the fun of it. A variety of reasons attract people to blogging; for some, it is an emotional outlet.

Sharing family pictures and stories is another reason why people enjoy sharing blogs. Some authors write blogs about a particular passion. Whether you are interested in stamp-collecting, needlepoint pictures, hang-gliding or literature, you will be able to find a blog about it.

Most blogs are visible to anyone who visits on the Internet, so refrain from including private details or inappropriate content. Many authors of blogs have had to deal with harsh consequences for posting items online without taking into account the implications. Also, don’t infringe on copyright laws by posting text, images or other material if you do not have permission to do so.

For reaching a large audience of readers, blogs can’t be beat. This is true whether your blog is aimed at promotion or just for fun. It’s worth pointing out that blogs can grow from a creative hobby to a business project. An example is a blog idea that evolves into a starter business thanks to a strong response from readers. Some authors of books say they started out as bloggers. A successful blog can help publishers to identify the author’s audience appeal.

Blogging is a recognized way to get your product message out to potential customers and clients. Making money blogging requires creativity and research to present information in a readable format.

I hope you are not sitting there stressing about how you can make your small business hum a little.  If you own a small home based business then now is the time for you to get creative on your marketing and start a marketing campaign if you have not already.

Have You Found That Business Is A Little Tough Out There?  Of Course You Have!So many people do!

The point is, what are you doing about increasing sales?

If you are finding it a little quiet you will know that there has never been a better time for you to improve your skills with new techniques or to expand your present skills with totally new knowledge.  You can access so much information on the internet that you just cannot get away with saying that, “you cannot find any relevant information”.

I am sure that you can find some time during your day that you could put aside to learn some new skills.  When you have a work at home business, it is tempting to switch off and not concentrate on your business marketing, but no business can survive that way.

NOW is the opportune time to find out what your competitors are offering or what they are NOT offering.   It is a time to find out what your customers either cannot get or cannot get enough of, and then you can set yourself up to CORNER THE MARKET.

Don’t ‘dillydally’, get stuck into it and make it happen!Take hold of the opportunity and give it the best shot you have.

But , HEY DON’T STOP THERE!

Get out and start looking for the next opportunity.  It may mean you have to stock something that you had not previously stocked, and if that is the case then do so.  But buy carefully and in small lots, you can always buy more.

Don’t make the mistake I sometimes did of getting all caught up in the success of your promotion and ordering too much.  The initial flush can sometimes be deceiving. Not that the product won’t keep on selling, but you can get the wrong impression about how much you will sell on a regular basis.

To start with, find out what your customers want and then supply it.  Ask questions or do a written survey if necessary, but whatever you do, now is the time find out exactly what your customers are looking for.

There are many places to do free marketing out there, or at the very least, reasonable marketing, so search them out and take advantage of them.  On the internet you can use U-tube, Facebook, Twitter, articles directories or create a blog, to name a few.  These techniques are especially good for home based businesses.

Look at ways to create customer loyalty.  It could be by discount card or email contact, but make sure you are keeping in regular contact with your clients. You will find it so much easier to get a previous client to buy than it is to get a new client to spend.Put at least one hour each day into marketing your home based business.  On top of that, do a little research on the internet and find out what other work at home business owners are doing to promote their businesses.

Truly, that is right.  Marketing is a game and it is one that all small business owners need to master if they want to run a successful business.      Have a look around your area.  Are there many businesses who do not advertise who are still in business.

For 8 years I was selling businesses and in all that time there were 2 successful businesses that stood out and why they stood out was because they both spent 10% of their Gross Profit on advertising.  There were the 2 most profitable businesses to come through our books.

It is the old adage, “you have to spend money to make money.”

A marketing campaign has to be one of the most important jobs a small business owner needs to do successfully and consistently.

There are 2 essential questions you must know the answers to:

1.  What is your Unique Selling Point (USP), and

2.  What do your clients want or need to buy

When times were good we always talked about what your customers want to buy, not what they need  to buy.  With the change in financial status of so many of your clients during 2008, a business owner now needs to think in terms of ‘what your customer needs to buy’.

There is no doubt that buying trends have changed.  Because of the financial climate around the world, people are not spending the amount of money they used to and are saving more in case of anything going wrong with their financial situation.Customers are now buying what they need rather than what they want.

So when you can answer the above two questions you can then start deciding what you are going to advertise, you can plan to find the required stock and even negotiate a deal so that you get the stock at a good price, allowing you to still make a healthy profit, even though it is going to be sold at ’sale price’ to your customers.

During times as we will have during 2009, try never to special anything unless you have been able to purchase it in the first place at a very good price. You want to offer your clients a good deal so go out and find a supplier who will look at making you a good offer.
