It is pretty much agreed that the usual way to have a baby is when you deliver in a hospital.Or to be more exact, most people assume that when you deliver a baby that medicine is required. In this piece we are going to try to shatter some of those assumptions. We are going to describe some different methods that might be better for you.

Of course these observations are going to be coming from the viewpoint of my experience running a San Diego midwife service.  If you are unaware midwives are woman who help assist during the delivery process.  Most of the time with no medicine in a homebirth.

So why do some women choose this method?  For the woman that choose this method and understand it, there are several reasons.

First of all, when you don’t use medicine in the labor, it actually makes the process of labor and delivery faster.Quite a few women don’t understand that when you use medicine it makes the labor slow down.Women want to use it because they think it stops the pain, but it actually makes the pain last longer.  There are many certified midwives in San Diego who can show you proof of that.

Second, the use of the natural method and sometimes through waterbirth actually helps soothe and relax the bodies during delivery. This produces a delivery with less pain and makes having the delivery occur much faster.  I have seen it helping many women have a waterbirth in San Diego.

Those are just the beginning of many reasons that women have chosen a homebirth rather than the usual method of delivery.  Although it has no use of medicine and usually no doctors it has proven to be a safe method. When you have the delivery in the home, it helps keep the act personal and private.Rather than the hospital where there will be quite a few different people who will be poking and prodding you during labor. So with those reasons in mind, many women are going with a homebirth.  It is safe and dignified and a great natural process.

One of the happiest times for a woman is during pregnancy.Quite a few women desire to have children. It is during those pregnancy months that those desires start to now come true.

During that pregnancy a lot of choices need to be made. One of the things to think about is which method of delivery will be used.  Sounds strange to say it is a choice but it is.  A lot of women usually go with using medicine to help deliver a baby. But there is a strong movement of women who make the choice of going natural. So what that necessitates is that no medicine will be used to help in delivery.  I have seen this from first hand experience as a San Diego midwife. It is taken from that experience that I am going to express various benefits.

So why is it that quite a few women are opting for a non medical delivery.A few reasons.First thing to point out is that women are now starting to realize that medicine actually make the delivery slow down. When you have so much pain and your only desire is to have the baby as quickly as possible, using medicine kills that prupose.  Many women are starting to realize that. What a lot of women fail to understand is that they are able to do it in that fashion. If they make the choice to have it done that way, they can utilize the services of a midwife.  In my part of the country there are quite a few midwives in San Diego.

A midwife has the ability to assist a women to have a gentle delivery. They have the option of going with a waterbirth.  Waterbirth is the use of water to aid in soothing the pain and helping the delivery.

Another thing is if a woman decides, a midwife can also help in a homebirth as well. Once again you can find a homebirth midwife in San Diego if you look.

The many benefits of having the delivery at home is that the environment is less stressed and more relaxed. These two benefits alone make it inviting to have it naturally. If you are with child, it could be a decision you might want to consider.

The birthing of a baby is one of the most cherished moments of a woman’s life. The joys of bringing in a new life into the world is like none other.Although it has an enormous amount of pain, most women agree that it is well worth it.

As a San Diego midwife I would like to share with you a method that you might not be aware of.  It is called waterbirth.

Waterbirth of all the methods of delivery has been described as one of the gentlest of methods. It utilizes and requires the use of a bath or pool that is heated. You will find some women will use during the labor the water part. This is done because the water that is heated is very pain relieving. It soothes and relaxes the tissues.

Other women also use it to deliver the baby.  They stay in the water all the way through delivery.Even going through it all including delivering the placenta.

The whole procedure is usually overseen by a person called a midwife.  If you are in San Diego there are plenty of midwives San Diego. You will want one that is very experienced.

Why do some women choose this procedure over the hospital? As mentioned, labor and delivery is very painful.A majority of women will use the drugs to try and stop the pain.  But for some women, they don’t want drugs for fear of harming the baby.  Using a waterbirth method helps with the pain.Because of the
heated water it soothes the tissues and helps with the pain.

Most women will go through this procedure naturally.  They will not use any drugs to cope with the pain.  Often times this actually helps the labor happen faster.  Because the use of drugs usually slows down the labor.

It is really a safe alternate way of delivery. For some women who are wanting to have their baby naturally this might be a choice to go with.  I have seen many happy deliveries as a San Diego licensed midwife. All it is going to take is for the woman to go and research a bit and see it for themselves
how safe it really is.

One of the sadder consequences of our modern day of medicine is the fact that birth and delivery are for all intents and purposes a medical procedure.

That might seem foreign to some people because most people already think of delivery as being a medical event. But that is the main issue.  It is not a medical event. It is an event that it is possible to keep it natural and private through alternate methods.  Women
should be notified to the fact there are alternate ways.

I would like to present one of those main alternatives from the perspective of a San Diego midwife.

That main way is by having a midwife assist you in a homebirth during your delivery.  This practice is known as midwifery and there are plenty of midwives San Diego.

As the amount of c-sections and induction rates rise in hospitals, it has transformed a very happy moment of delivery into a possible negative experience.

That is one of the main reasons for the push for more natural births through a licensed midwife or certified midwife.

Labor and delivery don’t necessarily have to include drugs, procedures that are invasive, constant probing of areas that are private, etc.   It can be done safely and effectively in a home environment through that homebirth method or even a waterbirth San Diego method.

It’s definitely an industry that is regulated highly.  You are able to know of the skill and experience of any midwife you may consider hiring.

But getting over that stigma of not having a baby in a hospital takes education.  But through experience and statistics most women can see that a lot of times having a baby in a hospital negatively effects the process.  From drugs that slow down the pregnancy, or speed up the pregnancy. To having to be put through a c-section.  Hopefully women can compare and contrast and see the success of having a midwife.

So for those women who want to try and keep the delivery of the baby a joyous occasion, using a midwife might be something they should look into.

With the dawn of the internet age, being able to find information about the natural process is as simple as doing a search on the internet.

There they will be able to find useful information that will help them understand the process fully. They can view any safety concerns and how it is handled. And most importantly they are able to witness the keeping of the delivery of a child a monumental occasion that is kept private and is still a happy event.

Pregnancy, what a special time for women.  Well, I guess aside from the sickness. But beyond that, the thought of a new baby arriving is exciting.

Usually, for women in general, the question of how you are going to have the baby isn’t that big.Because for most women they will choose the standard procedure which is the medical procedure which means hospitals, doctors, and drugs.

But for some women, there is an alternative. That alternate way is going through a midwife and having the baby naturally.  And it is that alternative I am going to share from my experience as a San Diego midwife.

For those unfamiliar, midwives help women go through a natural delivery with no drugs. This usually means no doctors.

Often times midwives in San Diego perform these services at homes.Although, not known by most people, this way to deliver a baby is a safe and regulated alternative.

The women, or midwife, who performs this service is fully regulated. They can be licensed midwives or certified midwives that have a regulatory board that oversees them.

Sometimes they can be nurse midwives, but that is not a requirement.

This form of delivery is an option a lot of women choose and includes waterbirth in San Diego. Mostly this choice is made by women who don’t want any drugs during delivery to keep the new baby away from drugs. Also it is for women who want to avoid invasive procedures like episiotomys.

When you are making a big decision such as the method of delivering your baby, you want to make right decisions.  With anything, you want to make sure you pick the right person.

As previously mentioned, it is a highly regulated industry. With that being the case, finding a good midwife who is licensed or certified is easy.

All you have to do is find your state regulatory board that  oversees midwives and do a background check to see if there have been any complaints or issues with your prospective midwife.

Something as simple as this step will help you determine if this is a midwife you can trust. It is still obvious that even though there are no complaints or reports about your midwife, you still want to verify some references.

You will want to find that midwife whose client base only have high praises for them.  With something as intimate and important as a delivery following these few steps will help you find the right midwife for your delivery.

Pregnancy and the act of labor and delivery, although joyful, also a source of pain.  Obviously joy because of the new baby, but ask any woman, and they will tell you a source of unspeakable pain.

Well because there is that pain involved, two schools of thought have come about on how to deal with labor and delivery.  I am going to offer some perspective on one particular school of thought that I have gained first hand experience with by being a homebirth midwife San Diego.

There is the medical model for delivering babies which is tied in with using drugs to kill the pain, and sometimes c -sections to finish the delivery.

While there is another model, which though not widely accepted, for those who believe in it and have experience it consider it much safer and natural for the woman.

That model is the midwifery model as it is called.  That model is in stark contrast with the medical model. The medical model is where you rely heavily on medicine, while the midwifery model relies on the natural.Midwifery philosphy believes that pregnancy, labor, and delivery should happen as naturally as possible because it is a natural process.

This model is a profession practiced by midwives. Midwives San Diego are generally woman, who attend the birth, often times at the mother’s home.  This midwife would then assist the woman in trying to get through labor as naturally as possible without medicine.

Contrary to most people’s opinion, when medicine is not used during labor, it allows the labor to proceed much faster without the use of drugs to slow the labor down.

The midwife is a professional with a regulatory board that certifies and licenses the individual.

Although often not a doctor or nurse, some midwives can be nurses.

Even though they are not a doctor or nurse, they do carry with them some medical equipment, such as resuscitation devices and suturing equipment.

So this describes what a midwife is and what midwifery is about in relation to pregnancy and delivery.

Their goals are to allow the birth and delivery to happen as naturally as possible.  This reduces the likelihood of a c-section.Does not subject you to hospital procedures that are invasive such as episiotomys. There will be less use of managing it with medical techniques such as breaking the water or using any types of drugs for the pregnancy. And for the woman the best part of all is that labor and delivery usually happen quicker naturally.

Hopefully this article sheds some light on the benefits of midwifery and having a midwife for your pregnancy.  At the very least, hopefully it gives you more options to explore.  Remember this is first hand knowledge from a San Diego midwife.
