$60,000 Mugging

Author: admin

I was referred to a prospective client recently that had their website redesigned.  They paid $60,000 for a site that really does nothing for them.  It is a simple brochure site that provides visitors nothing and it certainly does nothing to convert traffic into sales.  Since all their budget went to design, they  have no money left over to properly market the site.  Mistake #1, don’t pay $60,000 for a branding exercise.

A corporate website is about supporting the business.  The beauty of the Internet is there is no guessing.  You can measure pretty much anything.  What are you trying to accomplish?  Increase traffic? Generate leads?  Increase sales?  If it is yes to one of these questions, then a $60,000 investment should get you  another $600,00 to your bottom-line? Can a brochure site deliver a 80-95% ROI?

Web design is a commodity today.  The cost of design should represent about 25% of your total spend.  Design costs are competitive today, so spending more than you have to should be the last thing you do.  There are excellent open source Content Management Systems (CMS) that give you the power to manage your own content.  The cost of the software is $0 to you. We recommend using either Plone or Joomla.  Both of these platforms provide you with Web 2.0 compliant back-end at low cost for setup and maintenance.

The value in web design is working with companies that can properly market what you do.  To properly market the site, you should be spending 10-12x what you should spend in design.  So, it is possible to get a Web 2.0 website at an affordable cost.  If you are a small company that is spending $4,000-$8,000 on a basic website, you should plan over 12 months to spend an additional $30,000-$80,000 on marketing.  The dollars spent on marketing brings the traffic to the site.  Simple rule, more traffic through the front door means more business.

Unlike other advertising, you can control your spend and measure your ROI pretty quickly.  You can turn your marketing dollars on and off depending on the performance, it is all measurable.

DeFabis Photography is an example of a client that went through the redesign process.  We built a Search Engine Friendly website that allows him to manage content on the site.  Prior to working with us, his website was not listed in the top 100 on Google for the popular keywords.  Since working with us, his visitors and page views have increased.  But most important, he has doubled his bookings from this time last year.  And, he did not spend $60,000 on his web design.

If you need help in evaluating a prospective vendor, here are some question that may help you understand their knowledge:

1. How do capture visitor traffic off the Internet?  Can you track their movement through my site?  If so, how?
2. How do manage pay per click advertising dollars to ensure I am maximizing my spend and not wasting money?
3. How do you measure whether my site is friendly to my users?
4. How many page views would you estimate my site would get to determine the right level of hosting?
5. What things will you need to change on my website?  What things can I change on my own?
6. If I want to change the look, does it require changes to the backend scripting on the site?
7. What will it take to add a new page to match an ad we are running to the new site?  For instance, I want to advertise a special and build a page specific for it, what will it take for us to do this?
8. What do you anticipate the average cost per lead for the website to be?
9. Who owns the source code to the site?

So, think about your objectives.  Think about what you want to accomplish and spend your money according to the results you want to achieve.  A pretty website just does not generate the type of results you should and can get using the Internet.  Don’t get mugged for $60,000.  It’s bad for your business.

I could write a lot of pages, maybe even a book explaining what pay per click marketing is and what it can do for your business, but I will keep this short and to the point. Pay per click (ppc) marketing is an advertising platform in which you bid an amount of money that you are willing to pay for a click.

When a searcher does a search at Google all of the ads on the right side of the screen are ppc ads. Google calls them sponsored listings. When a surfer types in a keyword, the advertisers who have bid on that keyword have their ads displayed. When one of the ads is clicked by the surfer they are taken to the advertiser’s website. The advertiser is charged at maximum, the amount they’ve bid. Most of the time they are charged less than what they have bid.  But they are never charged more than their maximum bid.

The bids can start at 1 cent and depending on the market and the ppc search engine, go up to $50 or more per click. When starting off I suggest bidding very low. Ten to fifteen cents per click or lower is a good start. The higher you bid the higher in the rankings your ad is shown therefore increasing your ad’s visibility and your potential visitors. The downside is bidding high can cost you a lot of money and in some cases bring you way over budget. Be very careful when bidding.

Bidding low might not get you as much traffic as bidding high but it will bring you traffic for much cheaper thus increasing your return of investment (ROI).  One way to increase the amount of times your ad is shown (visibility) while bidding low, is to bid on a high volume of keywords. Some marketers bid on hundreds and up to hundreds of thousands of keywords.

This method will take some time. Putting together hundreds or thousands of keywords can be time consuming, but it is an effective strategy for getting quality traffic, without paying a lot of money. The more you work with the ppcs the faster you will get at putting together lists of keywords.

In case you’re not sure how to generate that many keywords there are many tools on the net that will help. Some are free and some charge money. One of the best free tools is offered by a company formerly named Overture, which has been bought out by Yahoo! This tool can be found here. http://inventory.overture.com

What can ppc marketing do for your business? Depending on your market, ppc marketing can be a great way to get quality traffic inexpensively, increasing your ROI and profit. It is also a great method for testing products because your ad can “go live” in as little as 15 minutes and up to 5 business days. Depending on which ppc search engine you use.

Advertising your business at free search engines a.k.a organic search engines can take weeks or even months for your website to be indexed in their directory. It can take a lot longer than that to get a decent ranking on your search terms. The more competitive the keywords you are trying to get listed, the harder it is to obtain a decent ranking. This is one reason why ppc search engines have a huge advantage over organic search engines.

I, as well as thousands of other marketers think the best two ppc search engines are Google Adwords and Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture). Google claims your ad can “go live” in 15 minutes but it usually takes a couple of hours. This is really fast. Yahoo! Usually takes a couple of days.

There are thousands of smaller ppc search engines. Some of them are good and some are not. Some will take your money but will not have many searchers. Google and Yahoo have hundreds of millions of searchers every day. If you think about using a smaller ppc do some research and find out what experiences other marketers have had. There are thousands of forums, newsletters, ezines and info sites dedicated to educating people about ppc marketing. You can learn a lot about Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and a lot of the smaller (2nd tier) ppc search engines at these places.

Pay per click advertising is one of the fastest growing sources of online advertising on the Internet today. Pay per click advertising is very cost effective and the traffic you will receive is all targeted to you products or services using keyword search technology. There are many different pay per click advertising services to choose from search the net and find the right company for you. I’ll show you what to look for in a pay per click search engine advertising company and how they work.

Why is pay per click advertising so popular? First of all it gives any small business a chance to compete with large corporations who control the major search engine results. There’s a lot less work involved all you have to do is set up an account with any company that’s right for you, then create an ad with your selected related keywords and submit. Then sit back and watch our traffic stats go though the roof.

Pay per click advertising companies provide targeted traffic to your website, meaning everybody who comes to your website are looking for your products or services.

The price is right, one of the best qualities of pay per click advertising is that set your daily limit to what you want. Spend as little as $10 a day and receive 1000 unique visitors if your keyword bid is only $0.01 per click.

How dose pay per click advertising work?  You as an advertiser bid on keywords related to your website on a pay per click bases to receive targeted traffic.  Say if your website sells car Insurance you bid on “Car Insurance, Car, Insurance and so on in till you find as many possible related phrases to your website as you can. Some keywords and phrases will be more expensive then others depending on your competitions bid on the same keyword or phrase. After you let your ad run for a couple days you start to see what keyword work the best to bring traffic to your website. NOTE: try to keep keywords related to your site that way people are actually looking to buy or find info on your products or services.

How to pick the right pay per click advertising company? Personally I look for a company that can provide me with low keyword bidding any where for $0.01 - $0.05 per click on keywords for a minimum bid. Even If the pay per click advertising company can only send you a hundred unique visitors a day it is way more cost effective in the long run compare to paying a dollar a click with a larger company to get the same amount of traffic for more money. Some pay per click advertising companies have affiliate programs allowing you to earn free traffic by placing a search bar on your website, you earn credits towards your pay per click account every time some one dose a search or clicks on a paying averter. Now this is a must it will say some where on the site usually when your sign up for your account that they are protected against click fraud, If not they can scam you money. A promotional deal is always nice, when I sign up with a company it’s good to get a deal so you can try their services with out pay a lot or some times nothing.

There are many different forms of advertising online and in my experience pay per click advertising has allowed me to keep up with my larger competitors with out breaking the bank or a sweat. Pay per click advertising combined with other free methods of advertising can bring thousands of visitor to your site a month with very little money invested. Pay per click advertising is perfetct for small businesses it helped me and it can easily help you.

Keeping your Adwords account organized is very important. It can make it easy for you to find your Adgroups, keywords and your ads. This can help you save time whenever you need to adjust your bids, ads, or keywords. Being organized can also help you achieve a higher clickthrough rate (CTR) which means getting the searcher clicking on your ad and becoming a prospect.

Organize your account by starting with a campaign name relevant to your product or service. If you were selling inkjet cartridges you could use that as the campaign name or the name of your website as the campaign name.

Set up your ad groups so that they are themed. If you were advertising inkjet cartridges and one of the products you are selling is canon inkjet cartridges you could create an adgroup titled “Canon Inkjet Cartridges” and then place relevant keywords in this group.

Ad Group Name: Canon Inkjet Cartridges
Keywords: canon inkjet cartridges, canon ink, canon cartridges, canon inkjet cartridges online

Two reasons for keeping your adgroups organized and themed like this are it is easy to find and adjust the keywords as necessary. It is easy to to put the keyword in the title and body of your ad.

It is important to put the keyword in the title and ad because you will achieve a much higher click through rate (CTR)

If you used the above ad with the keywords in the example your ad would be relevant to the searchers and the keywords in the ad would appear bold to the searchers catching their eye.

Let’s recap what you just learned. The bold text catches the eye of the searcher. The keyword is relevant to what they are looking for thus increasing the chances of you getting the visitor to your website instead of your competitor getting the visitor.

One thing you need to be careful of however is using a trademarked word in your title, description, or as a keyword. Some companies allow you to do this while other companies don’t. When in doubt either don’t use the trademarked term or contact the company and ask them for permission.

One other advantage of having themed adgroups is that Google rewards relevancy. This can improve your quality score and actually reduce the cost that you pay for the click. Your Ad’s position will improve.  You will get a lower cost per customer acquisition (CPA), a higher clickthrough rate (CTR), more profit and a higher return of investment (ROI).

Today you will learn all about pay per click advertising and what it can do for you and your company. Pay Per click advertising is one of the easiest and fastest ways to get traffic to your website with out emptying your pockets. I am going to go over a few things today like which company you should choose to start an advertising campaign with and not waste your time or money. I will try to answer some popular questions like how do you know when to trust a ppc search engine, Should I choose a big or small pay per click search engine and many more. By the end of this article you should have a good understanding of pay per click advertising and it will give you an idea on which one to choose.

How do you choose a pay per click company?

When it comes to picking a pay per click Company the first thing I look for is other people that have tried it and like it. The easiest way to do that is by posting on forums or searching in search engine. I then visit the website to look at the prices of min. deposit required and go from there. I compile a list to compare some prices between the companies I found and I liked. By doing this it allows you to find out each min. bid and which one to choose with out breaking the bank. You’ll have to do the research yourself.

How do you know when to trust a pay per click search engine?

Again I start with the forums and search engine to see if they have ever ripped someone off by using click fraud to steal their customer’s money. Its rear but it dose happen and if you see no complaints It usually means they are a trust worth company. I usually deposit a small amount of money (like $5.00) to test out the company. There are some pay per click search engine that allow you to test drive their services for free before you deposit, so the risk is on them and you can advertise cheaply and stress free. (Ex: Paid Results)

Do I choose A Big Or Small Pay Per Click Search engine?

I guess that would be totally up to you, depending on what you are looking for.
Do you want to deal with a huge number of competitors? Pay as much as $10
Per click just to stay on top of the search engine? Then I would suggest a bigger pay per click search engine. If you want less keyword bidding competition and work I would suggest a smaller pay per click search engine.

I found that using multiple smaller pay per click search engine was way more cost effective and gather just about the same amount of traffic a the major pay per click search engines. There for I would recommend you choose about ten smaller pay per click search engines and they usually offer you a sign up bonus so it’s free to try.
A good place to look for smaller pay per click search engines is:

Pay Per Click Advertising

Do you know what is the most important question among most internet marketers specially newbie’s. It’s “How to get highly targeted visitors to there site?” Believe me, I know it because I received this question from my subscribers almost daily.

Well, earlier when I started my internet business I also faced this problem. I tried safe-lists, I bought so called guaranteed visitors, even I blast my ad to 10 million (Yes, you are right. It’s 10 million) sites but couldn’t make a single sale.

Than I changed my strategies and get this problem solved by finding a right solution, and that is “Pay Per Click Advertising“. Pay Per Click Advertising is a great solution for traffic worries which directs a highly targeted traffic to my site. Yesterday only I got around 280 visitors and I made 24 sales.

Pay-Per-Click is a simple type of paid advertising that most search engines, including some of the largest ones, now offer. It requires a bid for a “per-click” basis, which translates to your company paying the bid amount every time the search engine directs a visitor to your site. There is the added bonus that when a per-click site sends your website traffic, your site often appears in the results of other prevalent search engines.

As with all marketing campaigns, there are pros and cons. Where there are flowers there are thorns also. what you have to do is to protect yourself from thorns and let only the fragrance touch your inner sense. I am going to tell you advantages the Pay Per Click Advertising.

One of the greatest advantages of PPC is that you never have to tweak your web pages to change your position in search engine results, as you must do in a typical SEO campaign. What you do have to do in a pay-per-click campaign is pay a fee.

Another advantage is the simplicity of the pay-per-click process. You just bid and you’re up and running. It doesn’t demand any specific technical knowledge, though the more you know about search engines and keywords, the easier -and more effective - the process will be.

Now came the very point in your mind that what is bad about Pay Per Click Advertising. The downside is that PPC is essentially a bidding war. A higher bid than yours will lower your position on search engine results. This means that you will have to raise your bid to regain your position - which can obviously become quite expensive, especially if you are bidding on a popular keyword.

In order to determine if pay-per-click is a cost effective form of marketing for your business, you must do some computing to figure out how much each visitor to your site is worth. You can compute this value by dividing the profit you make on your website over a given period of time by the total number of visitors for that same time period. For example, if your site made $5,000 in profits and there were 10000 hits, each visitor would be theoretically worth 50 cents. The basic formula is profits divided by visitors.

Be aware that the most popular keywords often cost considerably more than 50 cents a click. The only way around this is to bid less for these phrases or you will be paying too much for each individual hit.

Since when you are doing the business for earning moneyand you are losing a heavy part of it then you must have a plan in place to closely track the effectiveness of your keyword. It is advisable to monitor your keywords on at least a monthly basis.

The only way to assess your success in this field is monitoring, not only monitoring but careful monitoring. You can easily analyze it by visitor behavior which can produce invaluable knowledge about consumer motivation, habits, and trends. Expert monitoring and consumer analysis is essential to your overall business needs, and  pay-per-click campaign is a must for this.

I want to take a few minutes to talk about a recent development in paid search — and its implications as a new Internet marketing tool.

I’m talking about “demographic targeting,” something that both MSN AdCenter (in beta) and Google AdWords have just started offering. So let’s take a look at what it is and why you might want to add it to your Internet marketing strategies.

What is “demographic targeting?

Simply put, demographic targeting lets you zero in on an audience that shares a specific trait or characteristic, such as men aged 35 to 44 or people who earn over $50,000 per year.

Why use it?

Demographic targeting lets you zero in on the people who are most likely to be looking for what you’re selling.

If, for example, you sell health products geared toward menopausal women, then demographic targeting gives you a way to put your ads in front of only women in the menopausal age group.

You’ll pay more money for each click on your ad, but your overall return on investment (ROI) should still be much higher when you consider that your traffic is more qualified.

Who can you target?

Who you can target — and the exact costs — vary depending on the search engine. Let’s take a quick look at the differences between AdCenter and AdWords:

MSN Ad Center (still in beta): AdCenter’s targeting features let you display your ads to key audiences who are performing searches using your keywords.

You can target searchers by geographic location, gender, age, and the time of day or week, and you can even apply a combination of targets.

With targeted search, you may be able to achieve a higher position for competitive keywords than your competitors — that is, if your competition doesn’t apply the same targets.

MSN will even provide you with data to help you determine whether your keywords are appropriate for your demographic.

Google AdWords: Unlike AdCenter, AdWords does not provide demographic data that will allow you to better target your keywords. Instead, you can target specific AdSense publisher sites — sites that fit a particular demographic — to display your ads on.

Besides being able to target audiences by geography, gender, age group, and annual household income, you can also target sites based on ethnicity and whether or not households have children. Like AdCenter, you can select a combination of characteristics to really drill down to the most qualified people possible. There’s no doubt that demographic targeting has real potential as a great new Internet marketing strategy. And I definitely think you’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled.

With each Internet usage increase, many companies are doing what they can to make everything known to as many internet users as they can.

And what other way better than online advertising is there?

PPC marketing is just one of many other possible forms of advertising products or services online. It refers to ads that are uploaded by search engines, blogs, advertising networks and regular web sites to make publicity.

The expression pay per click advertising points out that advert agents pay the host web site or blog only when the ad is clicked on or accessed. These ads may not be clicked at all, in which case no money will be transferred between the host and advertising provider.

With content web sites, each click has a fix charge regardless of how many times it is made.

In the case of search engines, things with pay per click advertising get a little more complicated than with web sites because the system is different and advertisers propose a certain payment on keywords and phrases that would match their target markets; they actually bid for these keywords, and he who bids highest will own the keyword.

On the other hand, web sites rely on the list of phrases and keywords given by the advertiser in order to show an ad and the fixed charge makes it all easier.

If a certain keyword or phrase is introduced by the person viewing the site, the web site recognizes it and immediately displays the pay per click advertising as there would be higher chances of gaining click-worth money.

This is known as sponsored links and they can display where it will fit the advertiser.

Altogether there are many pay per click advertising providers and you can imagine the level of competition that there is between them. Three of the most important providers of such ads are Microsoft adCenter, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Google AdWords.

You can also find many different methods of marketing on the internet, some of them will give you an instant cashflow. If you would like to find out which one can pay at much higher levels, go to www.BeMaverickMoneyMaker.com and follow some step by step videos.
