Plumber Suggestions - The Right Way To Clear A Sink Trap
Author: adminSooner or later, whether you have new plumbing or not you will probably have to deal with a clog. Unless you don’t mind getting your hands dirty the fastest most efficient way to deal with it is just to call a professional plumber. Once you have the clog resolved it would be best to work toward making sure you don’t have to deal with any more of them.
Often it happens that when a drain clogs it is because it has been building up layers of stuck on grime and debris. These sediments form slowly over time and narrow the interior of the pipe until finally the drain stops. By keeping your drains clean you can save yourself from having to call a plumber at odd hours to open your plumbing back up and save yourself some money on top of it.
Non-Toxic Treatment Options
There are a lot of products on the market that are caustic chemicals designed to rapidly clear your drains. While those are effective, they’re costly and they put a lot of chemicals into the environment. There are more natural options you can use to clean your drains.
1) Pour about 1 cup of dishwashing liquid into the plumbing. Use a liquid that contains a degreaser and pour it slowly around the circumference of the opening of the drain. This ensures that it coats the full areas of the pipe. Give the liquid some time to stand and do its thing. While you’re waiting, boil a pot of water. Once the water reaches a full boil, pour it slowly into the drain. Repeat the process a second time if it’s been a while since you treated the drain. Do this treatment once a month to keep your drain clear.
2) Use the old science experiment and make a volcano in your sink. Boil a pot of water and bring it to a full boil. While it’s boiling, pour a box of baking soda slowly into the drain - try to cover all the sides of the drain pipe. After, pour several tablespoons full of vinegar into the pipe. Give the baking soda time to foam between spoonful’s.After the mixture has time to interact it will start breaking up the grease deposits while also killing off odor-causing bacteria. After a few minutes, pour your boiling water down the drain slowly to rinse the pipes clean. Repeat the process once a month to keep your pipes clean.
3) A little plunger goes a long way. If your drain is clogged or draining extremely slow, you can try one of the above options. If the clog is persistent then break out a little plunger for your sink. If you’re using store-bought chemicals then be careful with a plunger. This can cause chemicals to splash in your face. If the clog persists still, then consider calling a plumber to tackle the clog.
