Once up on a time the best career advice a Dad could give his children was to “Study well and find a secure Job“. A Secure Job was defined as one that is to be found in a very Big Company. Once you get in that place, cement yourself to that chair until you retire.

Well obviously, that Dad did not live in today’s world.
The world’s economy changed so drastically in the last one year that no one can say this type of Job is secure or that company is secure to work for. Chaos does not even begin to describe the state of market a few months ago.

In such a situation, what is your chance of surviving in your present Job, if you have one? If you are unemployed, what are your chances of success in getting a Job? Any self help coach worth his name will jump at this chance to tell you to think positive and see the best side of the picture. I will ask you to do the other way round. Take a moment and think of what can happen if can not keep the job you have or cannot get one right away?

There are two reasons why I am telling you this one. No matter what happens we all will survive. You need to know and believe that.
Two, if you can look at the worse and say “I can deal with that” you can deal with almost anything thrown at you. When faced with a tough challenge your courage can make or break your life. Which way you go depends on you belief in yourself and your ability to listen to good advice.

Let’s look at the first aspect. The courage to face a difficult situation has a deep connection with how well you know yourself and how well you like yourself. If you have a Strong Self Image, it is easy to tread the difficult path. But if you find yourself questioning yourself at each turn of the road, well I have some bad news for you. You will get lost very soon.

Fear not, you can do something about it now. Have a look at yourself and see if you can smile at the mirror. Do you believe in yourself? Do you like yourself? If you said yes, excellent, you are ready to go.
But instead, if you find yourself doubtful and questioning your own moves, well it is time you get started on some steps to improve your self esteem.
Ignoring all the academic stuff about Self Esteem, here is a two step process that can help you improve your self esteem.

1: Avoid toxic self talk: Stop verbally abusing yourself. It will only take you down. If you hear a critical voice in your head going on and on, all the time and pointing out your mistakes, just turn down the volume of that voice so you can no longer hear it.

2:Develop a friendlier Inner Voice. Replace the complaining voice inside your head witha more encouraging voice that helps you.

This two step exercise will help you get started on the right path. There is a lot more you can do to Improve your Self Esteem and you can find those steps on this site about Self Esteem and Confidence.
