The Power of Ayurveda as Curative Music

In India, Ayurveda has been practiced as a system of traditional healing since the primordial Vedic period. This system has enormous influence in South Asia and it is still practiced as a form of alternative medicine. This system of traditional medicine has evolved throughout its existence and is now recognized in the West as an alternative system of medicine.

In the western world, the ayurveda music is known as a form of complementary and alternative medicine. Recently, some of its systems and methods have gained fame. The use of herbs, massages, and yoga exercises has been used to blend with traditional and contemporary medical therapies. Every so often these methods are employed as entirely a form of CAM therapy.

Sushruta, has been practicing ayurveda music, describes perfect health as a state where all of one’s constitution are in perfect balance, whose appetite is excellent, whose tissue layers function normally, whose excretory systems, and whose self, senses, and mind remain full of bliss. Consistent with the philosophy of Ayurveda, everything in our world has a distinctive personal vibration. All matter animate and inanimate has this distinctive personal vibration distinct from all matter. A person is in good health only when there is an unrestricted and free flow of energy inside him. When this flow of energy is in turmoil, illness within an individual takes place.

In today’s world with the polluted environment, poor eating habits, bad lifestyle choices, and high stress occupations it would be extremely difficult to find an individual with a harmonious and free flow of energy within. This situation today that we are having doesn’t put us in a state of equilibrium, rather our minds and bodies are imbalanced. To bring back the balance of free energy flow and re-establishing a state of health are the two most imperative factors that Ayurveda strives to bring in.

As a healing system, Ayurveda has numerous methods that restore balance in the body’s energy flow and restore health back to its original state. Two techniques that can restore balance are meditation and yoga. The cleansing strategies can be used alone or together with other methods. Herbal preparations whose vibrations are vital to the method are used as well and the whole plant is used because the natural vibrations of the plant will restore equilibrium without overloading the body.

So we can say that ayurveda music is an effective technique to restore harmony to the body’s energy flow, and in turn, induces a balance of health, happiness, and beauty. Melody is a vibration, and as such it has the potential to affect the vibrations of the body. Ayurveda healing sound has been used as part of the Ayurveda holistic natural healing which happens to be 5000 years old.

Ayurvedic medicine believes that the pituitary gland in the brain is stimulated by the right music. This gland is pea sized but releases powerful hormones and regulates homeostasis. The melodic mode utilized in Indian classical music which is called Raga, is used in Ayurvedic medicine to produce the melodies of healing. The tones of the Raga are different than the tones in western scales. The former has shaper and flatter tones. The Raga is defined as “that which colors the mind”. Unlike western sound, this type of music has spiritual connections. As a healing music, Ragas are believed to have good effects on a lot of ailments including pain, insomnia, schizophrenia, epilepsy, and even aging. Aside from having positive effects on certain ailments, Ayurvedic music also confirms to be effective in controlling hypertension and liver function.

Ayurveda uses music to produce vibrations in the cells of the body. The vibrations produced can alter the consciousness of the person thus restoring lost health. Music has been known to enhance efficiency and concentration during extended periods of work. In order to have a relaxing mood, what we need is the suitable kind of music.
